Bronny James had a winding path to his college basketball debut Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, he has been cleared to return to action after a scary offseason health scare and saw his first action with USC against Long Beach State.

It did not long for James to flash his athletic ability. He delivered a chase-down block in emphatic fashion, conjuring up images of LeBron’s many iconic blocks from behind a play.

Long Beach State was trying to operate a fastbreak after a USC turnover, but James tracked the play the entire way. After a bounce pass into the lane, James displayed impressive closing speed and elite hops to elevate for the block.

At halftime, James has a rebound, an assist and a block but missed on his lone field goal attempt with the Trojans holding a 45-30 lead. For now, it’s good to see him get his feet wet at the college level considering his health scare in the offseason.

While training with USC in July, James underwent cardiac arrest. He has since been on the road to recovery and was cleared to return to practice late in November.

James will be on a minutes restriction early on, but he’s already giving fans a glimpse of what he can do when on the court.
