Scott Van Pelt on Friday made his pick against the spread for the annual Red River Rivalry game between Oklahoma and Texas.

It’s the final Red River Rivalry before both teams head to the SEC in 2024, and this year’s edition is set to be even more intriguing as it has major College Football Playoff ramifications. What’s more, both teams are undefeated heading into the game for the first time in 12 years.

Van Pelt is taking Oklahoma plus 6.5 in this one as the Sooners have bounced back tremendously in Brent Venables’ 2nd season: they finished just 6-7 in 2022, their first losing record since 1998. They have been led by strong quarterback play from Dillon Gabriel (1,593 yards, 15 touchdowns, 2 interceptions). In their last game, they defeated Iowa State 50-20 as Gabriel ended with 366 yards and 3 touchdowns and a pair of rushing scores.

A week prior, Van Pelt was 5-3, while he is 4 games over .500 for the season.
