Duke ‘finalizing’ deal with SEC coordinator to be next Blue Devils head coach, per report

Duke has reportedly found its new head coach.

College football insider Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Duke is finalizing a deal to make Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mike Elko the next head coach of the Blue Devils.

Elko left Notre Dame after the 2017 season to be on Jimbo Fisher’s first Texas A&M staff Elko, 44, has been in coaching since 1999. This would be his first head coaching job. Elko has ACC familiarity from his time as Wake Forest’s defensive coordinator (2014-16).

Duke parted ways with longtime head coach David Cutcliffe on Nov. 28.
