I hate Clemson because I'm a South Carolina fan. But this article is five kinds of stupid. Oh really, because LSU is the "real death valley?" Or because, the SEC is too tough? Gimme a break. And if you think I pull for Florida against Florida State you're freakin nuts.
Cmon guys. This is hilarious. No need for all the butthurt.
Just an aside - but remember the idiots who promised us an Arkansas- Tenn. SEC championship game?
So why have we kept Tennessee in over the past 8 years? It's not for the lax approach to book-larnin'
I'm not sure I'm picking up what you're putting down. He picked SC to hold UK to 17 or less (nailed it?) and you were picked to *lose last year (but you won).
It would be awesome if that happened, but I'm not seeing it.
Trust me, dude. No one is jealous of Arkansas. And only a loser thinks wins and losses aren't the measure of how good a team is. Yes, FSU is "good." That you find this debatable just shows where your head is placed and the approximate length of time it's been there.
I'm not directing that at you, but I see a lot of excuse-making because Mizzou's success undercuts the SEC's pre-eminence. Mizzou's success is relevant because it's indicative of the trend toward parity in the game. The SEC is the best conference, but the difference isn't much, and it won't last forever. Mizzou's success shows that.
Arkansas: 6-5. You're argument seems to be that other teams would do worse than Arkansas in your mind. That's an argument for being ranked? Because a 6-5 team is never going to sniff the top 25. And for the record, a team can't be better than their wins and losses would indicate. Wins and losses are what indicates how good a team is, period.
There's a difference with "SEC fans" and the difference is not always good. Mizzou is learning about that now - fact is, Mizzou is a dominant force in the division, something that they've earned. However, their dominance undercuts the "SEC fan's" assertion that there is only one conference in the nation worth watching. So the "SEC fan" wants to make excuses, portray Mizzou's success and the rest of the division's failures as "flukes," and cling to the notion that SEC dominance is a god-given right of the south. And someone brought up Tennessee? They haven't been relevant in a decade. Their continued lack of success is not a fluke anymore. I'm reminded of the ancient Chinese empire, who believed that everyone outside of their walls were just ghosts and didn't exist. Those "ghosts" conquered them within a few generations. Yeah... I've been in that boat before, UGA fan.
You lost 21-3 to Oklahoma State last year.
We shouldn't be playing games like these. And of course it's worse that a 6-3 overtime conference game. It's worse on every level.
Chris- that's nuts. Baylor won. That's the end of the discussion for me. If that doesn't count, what are we even playing the games for?
I'm a South Carolina fan - I knew about Mizzou. Keep winning - respect will come. And as I'm sure you've discovered on your own, most SEC fans are clueless.
Herbstreit is right. This last week was a pathetic display, and it's bad for the sport. It has nothing to do with silver spoons or how many callouses someone has.
Bama fan bragging about beating WVA by 10. Now I've seen it all. (I do think WVa was a very underrated team this year)
Yeah, the SEC West is good, but most of them are only about as good as other top teams: See Auburn v. Kansas State this year and Auburn v. FSU last year Bama v. Oklahoma last year Former #1 Mississppi State let UAB score 34 points It's not a "penalty" to play in the SEC, it's a privilege.
But that conference number 2 had a a chance to be number 1 already and couldn't hack it. It does not matter who the four best are. That's always going to be subjective. I do prefer the 5 conf. champs and three at large bid model, personally.
Mark my words - there will only be one SEC team in the playoffs. Why give Miss. State a second chance ala Bama in 2011? He's absolutely right. State had their chance.
Mizzou might be underrated, but Tennessee and Arkansas are rated just about right.
Georgia is a trash dump full of trash people. Even people from Alabama... I repeat FROM ALABAMA ... have noticed.
MSU can still make it, but mark it down: there will be only one SEC school in the playoff.
No. No. No. If a team beats you and has the same record in the same conference, there is no way you can rank the losing team ahead of the winning team. Baylor has been getting jobbed by this all year, and it makes zero sense.
this is why we need an 8 team playoff. There's too much parity nowadays to say definitively who deserves that 4-spot.
The Ole Miss scenario looks surprisingly doable.
It's absurd - it is without question the best thing to happen to the cfb postseason since the BCS. If Bama wants to be in it, go out and beat Miss. State and Auburn (or likely, just one of them). Win the SEC championship. You're not getting another freebie ala 2012's do-over.
It's the same sort of matchup that we had with Tennessee - our terrible defense against a limp offense. Who knows?
