Carson Beck had a good first start with the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday evening against UT Martin.

Beck finished having thrown for 294 yards with 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions. He completed 21 of his 31 passing attempts and also rushed for 12 yards and a touchdown.

Beck was especially excited about that rushing touchdown. He told reporters Saturday night that he usually is on the other end of the touchdown and that being the guy to actually score instead of the guy who passed the ball was a “different feeling” entirely.

“It was exciting,” Beck said, via DawgNation. “To be the guy running in the end zone is a little different feeling than being the guy that threw it.”

Beck has some big shoes to fill, and he knows that. Stetson Bennett is off to the NFL 2 championship titles richer, leaving Beck in charge of the offense.

With any transition period, it was a little slow to start. Three of Georgia’s first 4 drives ended in a punt, not something you’d expect against an opponent such as UT Martin. Then the Bulldogs proceeded to absolutely dominate the following 3 quarters and change.

As for Beck, he admitted Saturday that he was a little nervous, but once he settled in it was smooth sailing.

“I think it took a little transition period. Just working through some things,” Beck said. “It’s our first game and we’re going to have a few bumps in the road. In the second quarter, I think as a whole offense we settled in.”

Georgia continues its quest for a 3rd straight national title next week against Ball State, which Kentucky just beat 44-14.
