Jamon Dumas-Johnson explains why Auburn is second among Georgia’s rivals

Jamon Dumas-Johnson has a heavy influence from Kirby Smart on Georgia’s rivalry rankings.
That’s why Auburn is not No. 1 for the Georgia linebacker, even though the Bulldogs are getting set to play the Tigers this week.
“I know for sure Coach is going to be mad if I don’t put Georgia Tech first … Auburn probably second,” Dumas-Johnson said. “Since I stepped foot in here, Georgia Tech is the one for him … If we play Georgia Tech, just pay attention to how he acts.”
Smart’s era as a player also coincided to the last time the Tech rivalry was competitive, such as the last time Georgia Tech won 2 in a row.
Rivalries are often a hot debate in the Georgia fan base. The arguments shift depending on the age of the fan, and where they live, or grew up. Fans generally closer to Auburn place Auburn at the top, and it’s a similar story for South Georgia fans with Florida, and those in the mountains with Tennessee.
Smart has mentioned before that Georgia is the rare school that is surrounded by 5 contiguous states, and therefore has more opportunity for rivals.
