Kirby Smart appreciates Deone Walker, Kentucky’s 350-pound ’wrecking ball’
Georgia has a big challenge ahead of it in containing Kentucky’s Deone Walker.
The massive defensive lineman stands at 6-foot-6, 350 pounds and has been giving offensive lines major problems so far this season.
Kirby Smart, someone who knows huge defensive linemen well, praised Walker and Kentucky for the way they have been able to use him this season.
“Extremely athletic for a large man,” Smart said in his press conference Monday. “They do more with him than we probably did with Jordan (Davis). They don’t play him at the 0 nose, they move him to the 5 technique, 4 eye, they dropped him against Florida in the interception play. It’s unique as you’ll see, a human being 6-foot-6, 350 dropping. They mix it up with the guy. He’s talented player, we recruited him here. He’s gotten better. He’s kind of a wrecking ball in there. He knocks people back.”
Walker has 14 tackles and 2.5 sacks on the season, and he’s been integral in putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. On Saturday, he had one quarterback pressure that led to an interception in Kentucky’s dominating win against Florida.
Walker is certainly looking for a big game against the Bulldogs on Saturday, and Smart will do his best to contain him.
