Kirby Smart knows that Georgia’s attempt at a historic 3-peat as national champions will daunting.
That’s why the head coach wants the Bulldogs to sound in all phases as they begin the regular season with a home contest vs. UT Martin.
While addressing a press conference question about elite aspects of Georgia, Smart pivoted to the approach he wants to see out of his team.
“No clue. I couldn’t say what we’re going to be elite at because it’s day to day. I’ve seen a little bit of everything, seen good in a lot of areas, and seen bad in a lot of areas,” Smart said. “One thing I’m certain of is we better play hard, and we better play physical. Those are the 2 things we better see on both sides of the ball.”
No team has ever won 3 consecutive national titles in the AP poll era. No. 1 Georgia will have stiff competition within a stacked SEC that also features viable contenders such as No. 4 Alabama and No. 5 LSU.
The path back to the CFP appears attainable for Georgia, as its schedule at the moment only features 2 ranked opponents (No. 12 Tennessee and No. 22 Ole Miss).
Georgia-UT Martin is slated for Sept. 2 at 6 p.m EST and will be televised on ESPN+.
