Back again: Georgia adds familiar face, sign second QB of 2019 recruiting cycle
If you were a fan of former Georgia walk-on quarterback Stetson Bennett before, you’ll really love him now.
Bennett left the Georgia program last offseason to pursue a starting opportunity at the junior college level, at Jones County Community College to be exact, but now he’s back to compete for the backup role behind Jake Fromm following the pending transfer of Justin Fields.
Fields addition may have pushed Bennett out but now that the freshman is set to leave, Bennett is doing his part to add depth to the Bulldog QB room. Sounds like a good Dawg to us.
Bennett served as the starter at Jones CC last season and threw for 2,303 yards 20 touchdowns.
Of course, the big QB news for Georgia on Wednesday came when Ohio State pledge Dwan Mathis announced he would sign with the Bulldogs. In an odd twist, it appears Fields is set to take over the starting role in Columbus, which may have pushed Mathis to Athens.
Georgia also holds a commitment from four-star Mississippi QB John Rhys Plumlee, however, he has yet to sign with the Bulldogs. It will be interesting to see if the Bulldogs add three QBs to this signing class, or if Rhys Plumlee now reevaluates his options following the two new additions to Georgia’s QB room.
The school officially announced Bennett’s signing with the following Twitter post:
