Tre Mitchell, PF out of West Virginia, reveals SEC transfer destination

Tre Mitchell has spent time at 3 college basketball programs around the country. Now, he’s preparing for another move for the 2023-24 season.
On Monday, Mitchell officially announced a commitment to John Calipari’s Kentucky program. He transfers to the Wildcats after a standout season for West Virginia.
“Mountaineers! I can’t thank you enough for the love and support you’ve shown,” wrote Mitchell. “You guys are truly one of a kind. I have a dream and I have the opportunity to live it out… I love y’all more than you know, I know everyone has their own opinions on my decision, but like I said I’ve gotta bet on myself. I wish WVU Hoops the best of luck, I’ll always be a fan of mountaineer nation!”

A season ago, Mitchell averaged 11.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists while starting 32 games for West Virginia. He’s a career 48% shooter and a 35% shooter from 3-point range.
Mitchell began his career at UMass as a 2-time All-A-10 performer. He spent a year at Texas before a season with the Mountaineers and then transferring to Kentucky.
Mitchell joins Kentucky as the lone transfer piece of the 2023 recruiting cycle and provides some veteran depth to the Wildcats. John Calipari’s program holds the No. 1 recruiting class per the 247 Sports Composite with 7 total players and a quartet of 5-star prospects.
