ESPN “College GameDay” host Rece Davis sat down with Brian Kelly to talk about his move from Notre Dame to LSU for a segment that will air on Saturday’s edition of the popular pre-game show.
The 60-year-old coach reiterated that it wasn’t until after the Fighting Irish had concluded their regular season that he knew anything about LSU’s interest.
“My agent obviously fields a lot of these things and he keeps them from me until the end of the year,” Kelly said. “Once the season concluded, he had a long list of schools that had an interest and to me LSU was the most interesting.”
Davis also asked Kelly to explain comments that he had made during the season about having no interest in ever leaving Notre Dame.
Kelly said his conversation with Tigers athletic director Scott Woodward was a key factor in what changed.
“I think that conversation with Scott,” Kelly said. “I hadn’t had that before so I had no knowledge of what LSU was about or what that looked like. But I was being honest. And you know me. I’m going to tell you the way I think. And at that time, I had no thought that I would ever be leaving Notre Dame.”
