Tragedy struck the LSU family hours before kickoff at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on Saturday.

The daughter-in-law of LSU co-OC Steve Ensminger was among 5 people who died when a small plane carrying fans to the Peach Bowl crashed in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Ensminger still coached in the game, leading the LSU offense to a record-setting 63 points in a win over Oklahoma to advance to the title game. After the win, head coach Ed Orgeron spoke about what they said to the team about the tragedy and how Ensminger handled it:

“Coach Ensminger and I addressed them. But we didn’t have a lot of time to talk,” Coach O said. “He’s getting the game ball tonight. What a tremendous, tremendous LSU Tiger. He called a great game tonight.”

Now, Ensminger will likely have as much time as he needs to be with his family in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy.
