K’Lavon Chaisson reportedly learned that the Jacksonville Jaguars are declining the fifth-year option for the former LSU linebacker.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported the news, and added that like any player whose option is declined, Chaisson now enters a contract year with an opportunity to cash in with a big season.

The Jaguars made him the 20th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Chaisson appeared in 9 games last season, and made 10 tackles, including a sack, while he dealt with a knee injury. He appeared in 31 games the previous 2 seasons, and made 50 tackles and 2 sacks.

At LSU, Chaisson appeared in 26 games with 17 starts in his 3 years with the Tigers, and capped his career with 92 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks.

He was named first-team All-SEC in 2019 and freshman All-SEC in 2017.

Chaisson earned Defensive MVP honors of LSU’s Chick-fil-A Bowl/CFP National Semifinal win over Oklahoma in December of 2019, the same season he wore the No. 18 jersey in 2019. He’s another in a long line of Houston-area players to make an impact at LSU, Chaisson gave up his final 2 seasons of eligibility at LSU and entered his name into the 2020 NFL Draft.
