LSU’s offense has had a bunch of wrinkles this season led by QB Joe Burrow. But Burrow at wide receiver has not been in the mix. Until the SEC Championship.

Faced with a first down and 10 from the LSU, Burrow released a pass, but it was deflected at the line of scrimmage by a Georgia defensive lineman. That didn’t slow him down, though. Burrow collected the ball, and scampered 16 yards for another first down.

It setup what ultimately was a smooth 8-play scoring drive for the Tigers. Five plays later, Burrow found Ja’Marr Chase for a 23-yard touchdown pass with 9:09 remaining in the first quarter to open the scoring in Atlanta. That also sets a new SEC record for TD passes in a single season with 45.

Burrow was 4-for-5 passing for 66 yards on that drive.

This latest development makes Burrow a triple threat: He has the ability to run, pass and throw. But as Cody Worsham notes, it’s nothing new. “Burrow once caught his own touchdown pass in high school.”
