Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals have been in a rut to start the 2023 season. They are 0-2 with losses to the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens.

The game is 6-6 at halftime, but Burrow has been far from his best. He is 17-of-31 for 144 yards, hasn’t thrown a touchdown, and has been sacked twice.

It bears mentioning that Burrow has been nursing a calf injury that he suffered in July. It called his status for Monday into question, with lead receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who’s known the quarterback since the duo lit it up at LSU in 2019, urging Burrow to not play until he was fully recovered. Of course, there are some questions as to why Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has allowed Burrow to throw 31 times in a half on essentially 1 leg.

The Bengals won an AFC Championship two seasons ago before being knocked out by the Kansas City Chiefs in last year’s conference title game. Burrow and his teammates look far from a championship team right now and are in danger of falling to 0-3 if things don’t pick up in a hurry. According to ESPN, just under 3 percent of teams that have started a season 0-3 have made the playoffs.

Here’s a sampling of some of the reaction to Burrow’s performance on social media:
