LSU continues to work the baseball transfer portal.

The latest get for Jay Johnson’s staff comes from an in-state program. Nicholls pitcher Jacob Mayers (6-5, 205) will head to LSU to play his junior season.

Mayers shared the big news on social media.

A St. Amant alum from Gonzales, Louisiana, Mayers has spent the past two seasons with the Colonels. He didn’t need long to make a name for himself.

As a freshman, Mayers made 15 appearances, all starts, for Nicholls. Over 75.2 innings, Mayers posted a 2.02 ERA. His opponents had a .175 batting average, while Mayers struck out 105, walking 58.

Mayers’ standout 2023 season earned him numerous accolades. He received five Freshman All-American honors and was named the Freshman Pitcher of the Year by both Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

As a sophomore, Mayers pitched 70.2 innings. His ERA was up to 4.58 in 18 appearances (16 starts). His walks also increased to 76 in 2024.

Mayers still consistently struck batters out this past season. He led the Southland Conference with 106 Ks and a .165 opponent batting average. He ranked third in the NCAA in hits per nine (4.97) and 15th in Ks per nine (13.50).

Mayers still has 2025 MLB Draft buzz, meaning he’ll likely be a Tiger just for the 2025 season. The walk numbers may not be ideal, but Mayers is still a highly rated arm and a big get for LSU in 2025.
