LSU’s offense makes history during Peach Bowl matchup against Oklahoma

LSU’s offense is making history. Not only for its school, but for college football in general.
The Tigers are the first team in college football history to have a 5,000-yard passer (Joe Burrow), a 1,000-yard rusher (Clyde Edwards-Helaire) and two 1,000-yard receivers (Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson) in the same season, according to LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette. Those offensive standouts played a big role in LSU’s path to the SEC championship and its strong start in the Peach Bowl on Saturday.
Through three quarters of the Peach Bowl, Burrow passed for 493 yards and seven touchdowns while also notching a rushing score. Edwards-Helaire only had two carries for 14 yards, but his role was limited after suffering a hamstring injury at practice last week.
Jefferson had 14 receptions for 227 yards and four touchdowns through three quarters, while Chase had two catches for 61 yards.
LSU led Oklahoma, 56-21, entering the fourth quarter of the College Football Playoff semifinal matchup.
If the Tigers hold on for the victory, they’ll face the winner of the Fiesta Bowl, which features Ohio State and Clemson, in the CFP National Championship on Jan. 13.
And if LSU continues at this historic pace, it is going to be difficult for any team to beat.
