The LSU Tigers are a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Their first-round draw? No. 9 seed St. Bonaventure.
The Bonnies won the A10 Tournament and enter the NCAA Tournament having won 6 of their last 7 games.
So, how can the Bonnies take down the Tigers? Coach Mark Schmidt said during a radio appearance that controlling the tempo of the game will be the biggest key (via TheAdvertiser.com):
“If we can keep the game in the 60s, we’re going to have a good chance to win,” Schmidt said Tuesday on ESPNU’s “Off Campus” radio show. “Yeah, it’s that simple, but it’s hard to do. If it gets in the 80s, then not as much. The question is how do you do that?
“It’s easier said than done in terms of, ‘All right, we’re going to keep this game in the 60s. We’ve got to control tempo. But it’s hard when they’re pressuring you, and they’re switching off screens. And we’ve got to be able to guard them.
“We’ve got to to try to keep the game in the half court as much as we can against a team that really wants to push it.”
