Tre Morgan initially hesitated to tell the story, but once he started, his teammates looked away and laughed.
The LSU players were asked about the funniest thing to happen to them in Omaha en route to their College World Series championship, and Morgan opened up.
Morgan explained how Thatcher Hurd stole Wake Forest pitcher Rhett Lowder’s pregame meal with an intercept of a DoorDash order. That was before what he described as “one of the most important games of the season” against “one of the best pitchers in the country.”
The DoorDash driver delivered the meal, and to confirm the transfer, the driver said, “Yes, it’s for Rhett L.” Hurd ordered at about the same time, and was already on his way to get his food when he gladly accepted Lowder’s order.
“So Rhett Lowder didn’t get his pregame meal,” Morgran said.
Jay Johnson chimed in and said, “Let me clarify, that’s the only run we scored off him.”
LSU won 2-0 in 11 innings, but Lowder went 7 innings and didn’t allow a run, walked 2 and struck out 6.
This is a must hear story on Thatcher Hurd stealing Rhett Lowder’s pregame meal before that insane semifinal game???? #LSU
