Miami has been in trouble before in games this season, despite being 9-0, ranked 4th and boasting one of the best offenses in the nation led by all-world quarterback Cam Ward.

So, here the Hurricanes are again on the 2nd Saturday in November, trailing stubborn Georgia Tech, 14-10, at halftime at Bobby Dodd Stadium, with the Yellow Jackets harboring visions of a grand upset in Atlanta.

Yes, there’s still a whole 2nd half to play, and the high-octane Hurricanes have been known to pile on the points in general but especially as games go on and they wear opposing defenses down. But for the first half at least, Georgia Tech had Miami’s number, holding the Hurricanes just under 200 yards of total offense and actually out-gaining Miami.

And Ward? Well, he had only completed 9-of-18 passes for a measly 133 yards and only 1 touchdown pass as the teams headed into the locker room. Again, Ward has a whole 2nd half to still terrorize the Yellow Jackets’ defense, but in the first half, Georgia Tech contained the Heisman Trophy candidate.

The only real sign of life for the Canes in the first half was Ward’s 74-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Arroyo that tied the game at 7-7 with 11:59 left in the first quarter. The Hurricanes took a 10-7 lead on a field goal later in the first quarter before Georgia Tech grabbed the lead back on a touchdown pass by Haynes King early in the 2nd quarter.

And that was it. For now, of course.
