Mississippi State lands commitment from transferring West Virginia DB

Mississippi State has seen a handful of defensive players leave via the transfer portal already this offseason.

But, on Tuesday, the Bulldogs got some good news on that front, landing a commitment from a transferring DB out of West Virginia.

As you can see below, Jackie Matthews took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to announce he was heading to Starkville to join Mike Leach’s program:

In 2021, Matthews appeared in 12 games for the Mountaineers, recording 42 tackles (6.5 for a loss), 1 sack, 1 interception and 2 pass breakups.

How he fits in with the Bulldogs’ defense in 2022 remains to be seen, but he brings plenty of experience to the table.
