Mississippi State is entering Year 1 of the Chris Jans era as head coach, after the former New Mexico State leader took over for Ben Howland this offseason.

As was the case with nearly every team across the country, the Bulldogs have dealt with numerous players entering the transfer portal.

But, on Thursday, the Bulldogs got some good news, as forward Cameron Matthews, one of the few Bulldogs who didn’t enter the portal, announced he was returning to Starkville for the 2022-23 campaign:

Matthews appeared in 33 games for Mississippi State the past season, starting 10 of them. He averaged 2.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.2 assists per contest.

Will Matthews have an even bigger role this coming season? We’ll find out this fall!
