Barry Odom is not ducking from his winless post-bye week record

Even before the bye week officially began, Missouri coach Barry Odom knew the questions would come about how the Tigers are winless following off weeks during his tenure as head coach.

Missouri is 0-3 under Odom in that scenario, and 0-5 if bowls are included. With games against FBS opponents and more than a week to prepare? Make that 0-7.

Odom was asked about how the progress has been the last two weeks compared to years past.

“Better than it’s ever been in this situation,” Odom said Tuesday at his regular weekly press conference. “I’ve learned just to deal with it. Don’t run from the fact of what it is. Address it with our team, they understand where we are and what we need to do, and they’ve responded in a way that you should want.”

Odom knew the question would come because he offered some foreshadowing following the win over South Carolina.

“I know I’m not very good at coming off a bye up to this point,” he said. “I know it’s been well-documented. I appreciate you guys pointing it out.”

Odom made several changes to the team’s schedule during the off week, from practice time and putting the starting offense against the starting defense, to when coaches went on the road to recruit.

The 3-1 Tigers face Troy this week in a 3 p.m. local time kickoff on Saturday on the SEC Network.
