Mizzou is now in the market for a new offensive line coach after Marcus Johnson left for a job at Purdue on Tuesday.
Purdue hired a new head coach this offseason, landing Ryan Walters (a former Mizzou defensive coordinator) from his spot on Illinois’ staff as the DC for the Illini after Jeff Brohm went to Louisville.
Now Walters has used his ties to Columbia to bring Johnson from Missouri to Purdue as the Boilermakers’ new offensive line coach, the school announced on Tuesday:

“It is exciting to be reunited with Marcus and bring him here to Purdue,” Walters said in a press release. “Marcus is a bulldog on the recruiting trail and commands attention as a coach. His experience as a player and now as a coach will immediately help our guys in the offensive line room. Marcus’ character aligns with our program’s core values.”
Johnson had been at Mizzou as the Tigers’ OL coach since 2020. Prior to that, he spent time at Duke and Mississippi State. Walters had previously been Mizzou’s DC from 2018 to 2020, serving as the Tigers’ co-DC in 2016 and 2017.
Where the Tigers turn next for an OL coach remains to be seen, but coach Eli Drinkwitz will have a big spot to fill on his staff before the 2023 season begins.
