5 SEC defensive backfields make Athlon Sports’ list of 25-best DB units in college football

The SEC had nine defensive backs selected in the 2018 NFL Draft, and several others who signed contracts as undrafted free agents.
However, the secondaries across the conference are still loaded heading into the 2018 season, and five of them cracked Athlon Sports’ ranking of the top 25 secondaries in college football.
Florida led the way at No. 3, with Pac-12 Washington checking in at No. 1. Here’s where each of the five SEC squads ranked among the nation’s elite:
- No. 3 — Florida
- No. 6 — Georgia
- No. 7 — LSU
- No. 13 — Auburn
- No. 17 — Alabama
Interestingly, Alabama makes the list even after losing Minkah Fitzpatrick, Anthony Averett, Tony Brown, Ronnie Harrison and Levi Wallace this offseason. However, the Tide are sure to reload with top talent, so this is probably a good place for them.
Based on this ranking, Florida has the current edge over LSU in their battle over the “DBU” moniker. That could all change in a hurry, though.
