Entering the preparations for the 2019 NFL Draft, Alabama S Deionte Thompson was in consideration as a first-round pick.

Instead, his wait was much, much longer. After going through the first four rounds of the draft without hearing his name called, Thompson finally found an NFL home to start Round 5.

With the first pick in the fifth round, the Arizona Cardinals chose the talented Alabama defender.

Thompson finished the 2018 season with 78 tackles (3.5 for a loss) and two interceptions. He had six passes defended and forced three fumbles, recovering one.

As an early entrant into the draft, it’s fair to wonder what one more year with the Crimson Tide would have done for him. However, he’s off to the NFL now and we’ll see how he fares with the Cardinals.
