Ed Orgeron praises new LSU QB Joe Burrow, but adds ‘he’s going to have to do it here’

Former Ohio State QB Joe Burrow was the hottest name on the graduate transfer market this offseason, eventually choosing LSU over Cincinnati.
Now, he’s the favorite to land the starting job for his new squad, as long as he beats out fellow competitors Myles Brennan, Lowell Narcisse and Justin McMillan.
At SEC meetings in Destin, Florida, on Tuesday, LSU coach Ed Orgeron was effusive in his praise of Burrow, but added that he’s going to need to see results on the field (via TheAdvertiser.com):
“Joe is an outstanding quarterback,” he said. “And he’s a game changer. He’s a difference maker. But he’s going to have to do it here. All the things we heard about him are true. He’s smart. He’s tough. He’s got accuracy. And we wanted him. What we saw on film, we wanted him.”
Coach O also discussed what sold the former Buckeye on LSU, saying the opportunity to win a starting job was huge:
“The chance to play in the SEC was big,” Orgeron said. “And what we told him was, ‘There’s an opportunity for you here. We don’t have a starting quarterback right now. We’re going to give you the opportunity to win the starting quarterback job, just like we do everybody else.’ And I told him, ‘We started five true freshmen last year. Everybody has an opportunity to play here. But nothing’s going to be given.'”
Burrow still has some work to do before he is officially named the Tigers’ starter, and if he does win the job, he’ll have a lot of pressure on him to succeed.
