When it comes to tracking highly coveted recruits, every little action is considered newsworthy right up until the paperwork is signed.
For fans who follow recruiting, it should come as no surprise that five-star CB Shaun Wade, an Ohio State commit, made headlines for wearing Alabama shorts at this weekend’s IMG Academy 7-on-7 tournament in Bradenton, Fla.

At the tournament, GatorCountry.com’s Daniel Thompson caught up with Wade to talk about Florida’s recruitment of the Jacksonville cornerback.
Wade shed some light on his relationship with new UF defensive backs coach Torrian Gray:
“Their message is that it’s close to home and I like Coach Gray,” he said. “Coach Gray and I talk pretty much every day pretty much. He’s just trying to get to know me. We talk football and then we talk about school. We talk about different things and he’s just trying to get to know me as a person first.”
Despite the commitment to the Buckeyes made over a year ago, Wade hasn’t shut down his recruitment:
“I’m still committed to Ohio State,” he said. “ We talk about every three days. I’m looking forward to sitting down and talking to the coaches when I go up there. I want to talk to the players more. Everything is straight with Ohio State but I’m just keeping my options open.”
Wade is ranked as the No. 12 overall prospect and No. 3 cornerback for the 2017 class in 247Sports composite rankings.
