The San Francisco 49ers released Ellington on Thursday. The former Gamecock missed the 2016 season with a torn hamstring, but was in contention for a roster spot this season.
After three seasons at South Carolina, the 49ers picked Ellington with the No. 106 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. In two seasons with the 49ers, Ellington recorded 19 receptions for 215 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also contributed on special teams, averaging 25.6 yards per kickoff return.
