It was called the Kirby Effect, and Georgia’s dominating performance against Tennessee drew plenty of compliments.
Georgia entered Saturday with the 14th best total defense in the country after the Bulldogs allowed 269.5 yards per game to start the season. On Saturday in a 41-0 win at Tennessee, Georgia improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in the SEC.
The Bulldogs rolled up 378 yards of offense and held Tennessee to 142, including 62 yards rushing as the SEC’s rushing leader, John Kelly, was held to 44 yards on 16 carries. The Georgia defense also drew comparisons to the defenses coach Kirby Smart led at Alabama as defensive coordinator.
That caused many, from college football analysts to fans, to suggest Georgia is now the favorite to win the SEC East, and challenge Alabama to win the conference.

Fromm finally pulling the ball on the zone read and that is huge for Georgia's offense moving forward. Creates space for freak show RB's!

Tennessee makes a big play and @FootballUGA defense takes it away. Wow. Best Georgia defense I've seen since 2012.

You’re right! No more picking against the Dawgs for now. Couldn’t be happier for Kirby and his team. They’ve looked outstanding this year. https://t.co/vJ84y6Besb

They’re playing Rocky Top after this? Well, I guess I’ve never been more happy to hear it! #DawgsOnTop

Only thing stopping Georgia from the college football playoffs is Alabama. Bulldogs need other top teams to lose and hope they take two SEC.

Georgia looks Alabama-esque if I say so myself
