Bulldogs players will finally have a true locker room in their stadium.
Georgia announced the approval of its athletics budget Thursday, and it includes a $1 million enhancement of the west end zone of Sanford Stadium.
A school release says the following about the project:
This project will serve as the initial, exploratory steps of a major enhancement to the west end zone of Sanford Stadium. These enhancements include: a new home locker room for the Bulldogs, a space to host and entertain prospects on game day, and improvements to rest room concession areas.
“The purpose of the stadium project is to ask the question, `What can we do to maximize our space,'” said J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Greg McGarity. “That’s what an architect will help us answer. Right now, we have a lot of dreams and ideas for how to use the space and getting an architect on board will allow us to document that.”
Chip Towers of DawgNation.com reports that the west end bridge will not be affected, and the Dawg Walk will go on as scheduled:
When completed, the Bulldogs will still hold their “Dawg Walk” through the Tate Center parking lot and underneath the bridge. However, the players would now change into their uniforms at the stadium before the games and shower there afterward rather than changing at the Butts-Mehre Football Complex as they currently do.
Earlier this year Georgia broke ground on an indoor practice facility.
