Jake Bentley calls hit from Vanderbilt’s Charles Wright his ‘probably No. 1 hardest hit’

Vanderbilt had two players ejected for targeting on Saturday afternoon in a loss to South Carolina, but Gamecocks fans were certainly holding their breath on the second one, which came when LB Charles Wright hit QB Jake Bentley along the sideline.
Bentley went down hard, and upon review, Wright’s ejection was upheld, though that did nothing to alleviate Bentley’s pain.
On Tuesday, Bentley discussed the hit from Wright, calling it the hardest hit he’s taken in his entire career (via 247Sports):
“That’s probably number one hardest hit,” Bentley said. “I couldn’t really move my neck (to the right) too much. It’s feeling better now. He got me pretty good because I was staring at (RB) A.J. (Turner) for the whole time. I threw it and thought I was good, but then it felt like I got hit by a truck. But I’m good though.”
The Gamecocks are lucky Bentley wasn’t concussed or otherwise hurt, though it is a bit concerning that he had neck pain.
Still, it seems like he’s ready to go for Saturday’s game against Georgia, where he’ll face another tough defense.
The game in Athens kicks off at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on CBS.
