LSU baseball stars Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes could make history in a number of ways on Sunday night at the 2023 MLB Draft.

Both Crews and Skenes are in contention to be picked No. 1 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Skenes, if he isn’t selected first, is widely-expected to go off the board at No. 2 overall to the Washington Nationals.

If either Crews or Skenes goes No. 1 overall, they would become just the 2nd player in MLB Draft history to be the top pick after also winning the College World Series. Arizona State’s Rick Monday pulled off that impressive feat in 1965.

If they Crews and Skenes go top 2, they’d become the first pair of teammates to be selected No. 1 and No. 2 overall in MLB Draft history. UCLA’s Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer were selected No. 1 and No. 3 overall, respectively, in the 2011 MLB Draft.

Florida’s Wyatt Langford is also in the mix to go in the top 3. If Langford joins Crews and Skenes at the top of the draft, the SEC would become the first league in MLB Draft history to produce the top 3 picks in a single draft.

The 2023 MLB Draft will begin on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET.
