Vols’ Hail Mary vs. Auburn Kick-Six: UGA grad transfer Maurice Smith weighs in on two miracle plays

Georgia DB Maurice Smith, a graduate transfer from Alabama, has had the misfortune to be on the opposing sideline for two of the biggest miracle finishes in SEC history.
Smith was a freshman at Alabama in 2013 when Auburn returned a last-second field goal attempt 109 yards for a touchdown, now famously known as the “Kick-Six.”
On Saturday, he was on the losing Georgia team in Tennessee’s incredible Hail Mary finish.
After Saturday’s disheartening loss, Smith told the Times Free Press that Georgia’s defeat was just as difficult to handle as Alabama’s in 2013:
“This is toe-and-toe with that game. It’s right beside it,” Smith said. “It’s heartbreaking, and it’s going to be something that’s hard to get over. We have to take pride in the fact that we still have opportunities out there and we have to do a great job of maximizing those, but the feeling is exactly the same.
“It just hurts to have this happen twice in a lifetime.”
For Smith’s sake, here’s hoping the Bulldogs don’t suffer any more unbelievable losses in 2016.
