North Carolina opens the 2024 season on the road against Minnesota on Thursday night.
According to an update from the school, the game is expected to be delayed because of “potentially severe weather” in the area. The previously scheduled kickoff time was 8 p.m. ET (FOX). Due to the weather, the tentative new kick time is 9 p.m. ET.
Gates will open at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis at 7:40 p.m. ET.

North Carolina is opening the post-Drake Maye era while Minnesota is looking to rebound from a 6-7 campaign last fall.
The Tar Heels are expected to play both of their top 2 quarterbacks in the opener. Head coach Mack Brown told reporters at a press conference last Friday that UNC was still in the process of determining which player gave them the best chance to win games this fall — Conner Harrell, who started in the team’s bowl game last season, or Texas A&M transfer Max Johnson.
“We will have both quarterbacks ready and we will play them based on how the game will dictate,” Brown said. “They’re both good. They’re both good enough to win. But we’ve got to figure out what during the game works the best to win the game. And that’s it.”
Minnesota, meanwhile, is turning its keys over to New Hampshire transfer Max Brosmer, a quarterback who was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award and an FCS All-American last season.
Both the Gophers and the Tar Heels are also introducing new defensive coordinators.
Add in potentially inclement weather and it might be a sloppy game in Minneapolis. UNC is a 1.5-point favorite at FanDuel.
