Baker Mayfield reacts to state title for program he helped with generous donation
Baker Mayfield has resurrected his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former first-round pick had a few rough seasons with the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers but has now found a home in central Florida.
Before the 2024 football season, Mayfield learned of a local Florida high school team, the Space Coast High School Vipers, that was in danger of having to cancel their season due to a lack of equipment. Mayfield stepped in and generously donated $17,900 to the school.
The QB’s donation helped the school have a season, and the team ended up winning the state title after going 1-8 in 2023.

Mayfield was informed that the players would have a watch party every week to cheer on the QB and his Buccaneers.
“I’ve got chills thinking about it,” said Mayfield. “It’s just a cool story, I’ve got an unbelievable platform to be able to give back.
Space Coast High School is located in Port St. John, FL, about 2 hours from Tampa. The school faced having to cancel the varsity and junior varsity seasons due to the equipment shortage before Mayfield stepped in.
“All we did was get some helmets,” explained the QB. “They did the rest, they turned it around. They believed in it, and that’s what football is all about.”
Mayfield and the Bucs have a 4-6 record and are 2nd place in the NFC South. The next test for the team will be against the New York Giants.
