Oklahoma lands commitment from Mountain West DB out of transfer portal

Oklahoma is boosting its secondary with an experienced defensive back out of the transfer portal.
Dez Malone announced Sunday that he is continuing his career with the Sooners after 4 seasons at San Diego State.

Malone has been in the portal since November as a graduate transfer. In his portal announcement, Malone stated he has 2 remaining seasons of eligibility. Purdue, Houston, West Virginia, Michigan State and Louisville also extended scholarship offers.
After 2 seasons of limited playing time, Malone had a breakout season in 2022. Playing in 13 games, Malone recorded 43 tackles, including 34 solo stops and 1 TFL, along with 3 interceptions and 5 pass breakups.
This past season, Malone upped his tackle numbers to 47 total with 2 TFLs, including 1 sack for 10 yards over 12 games. He added 1 interception to his career total. Malone was named 2023 Honorable-Mention All-Mountain West.
