Oklahoma lawmaker trolls Lincoln Riley with highway proposal

Lincoln Riley’s departure from Oklahoma to USC came as a surprise to Sooners fans. While they’ll hope that Brent Venables can bring the program its first national championship since 2000, it still doesn’t take away the feeling of betrayal left by Riley’s exit for Los Angeles.

In the meantime, an Oklahoma lawmaker has introduced a bill in the state’s Legislature that calls for the renaming of three inches of State Highway 325 as the “Lincoln Riley Highway”. The 38-mile road runs from Boise City, Okla., to the New Mexico state line.

“I found the tiniest section of our most desolate of highways to play tribute to Coach Riley’s exit from Oklahoma football and the state. This is only fitting as this is the last three inches one sees before leaving our great state heading west,” state senator Bill Coleman, the bill’s sponsor, said in a release.

The bill likely won’t pass, but it goes to show how seriously Sooners football is taken. And if anything, it’s one last parting shot at Riley as he settles in with his new program.
