Ole Miss reportedly finds new RB coach with SEC experience

Published:
Ole Miss had a vacancy at the RB coach position after Kevin Smith left Oxford for Miami.
Now, Lane Kiffin has reportedly found a new assistant with SEC experience to fill that role for the 2022 campaign.
Per Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports, the Rebels are expected to bring in Marquel Blackwell of Houston to replace Smith moving forward:
Ole Miss is expected to hire Houston’s Marquel Blackwell as running backs coach, sources tell @on3sports.
Blackwell, who previously worked in the SEC at Florida, was the runner-up for the Alabama running backs job last year.https://t.co/k5bN5NhJoE

Blackwell coached at Florida in 2015 as a quality control assistant. He then moved on to Toledo to coach RBs from 2016 to 2017. In 2018, he held the same position at West Virginia. In 2019, he was Houston’s co-OC and QB coach before moving to RBs the past 2 seasons.
Per Zenitz’s tweet, he was the runner-up for Alabama’s RB coach job last year, so it’s clear he’s highly respected around the SEC.
