Ole Miss offensive analyst Sterlin Gilbert is leaving the program for a new opportunity, according to a report.

Per FootballScoop, Gilbert has been hired as the new quarterbacks coach at Cal. He’ll now join Justin Wilcox’s staff on the Golden Bears as they transition into the ACC in 2024.

Gilbert spent 1 season in Oxford as an analyst on Lane Kiffin’s staff. His coaching tenure also includes stops at Syracuse, Texas and Tulsa, amongst others. He was also McNeese State’s head coach for the 2019 season. Gilbert was 1 of 3 “senior analysts” on Ole Miss’ coaching staff last season.

It’s been a relatively quiet offseason so far for Ole Miss. The Rebels are expected to return coordinators Charlie Weis Jr. and Pete Golding for the 2024 season. Quarterback Jaxson Dart is also set to return for another season with the Rebels. Ole Miss will be hoping to build on what was a successful 10-2 campaign in 2023.

Ole Miss’ season will conclude with a matchup against Penn State in the Peach Bowl as it looks to win 11 games for the first time in program history.

Ole Miss and Penn State will kick off at 12 p.m. ET on Dec. 30.
