CFB fans flame Sports Illustrated for crowning Deion Sanders 2023 Sportsperson of the Year
Deion Sanders took home an award on Thursday much to the dismay of a few fans around the CFB world.
Sanders won Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year despite leading the Colorado Buffaloes to a 4-8 record in Year 1.
Many claimed that the award would have made sense if only the season ended in September. Colorado got off to 3-0 start and then started its conference schedule and things went downhill from there.
The Buffaloes lost to Oregon and USC to close out September, then won 1 of their next 7 games to close out the year. Colorado went from a 1-win to a 4-win team under Sanders in his 1st season. However, it looks like there’s some still more work to be done in Boulder if the program wants to reach a bowl game.
The reactions to the news on social media were priceless. Here are some of the better fan reactions to the post:
Didn’t beat one team with a winning record, went 1-8 in Conference play and finished the season losing 6 games in a row. Seems legit. pic.twitter.com/T3GtzHu5Bv

Is there a more hyped team in CFB history coming off a 4-8 season?

A team that went 4-8 had its coach be Sportsperson of the year?! Prime’s 15 seconds of fame was over 2 months ago pic.twitter.com/MoaG9kVsRY

I mean I get it for the hype and start, but the finish was brutal.

Even Deion wouldn’t approve of this ??
