Cole Cubelic and Greg McElroy are breaking down the quarterbacks for the SEC contenders as Week 1 approaches.

The pair shared their thoughts on Georgia, Alabama, and LSU during the recent episode of McElroy and Cubelic In The Morning.

Cubelic notes this is an unusual amount of uncertainty across college football at the most important position in the sport.

“This may collectively be the most questions we’ve had around just quarterbacks in general of teams we think can get to the playoff or win the playoff in quite some time,” Cubelic said. “We haven’t had this many wonders of what it’s going to look like at a lot of places.”

Cubelic cites back-to-back national champion Georgia as an example. The Bulldogs will have to move forward after the departure of the reliable Stetson Bennett.

“Carson Beck might be great but we don’t really know. There has to be some anxiety with some of these coaches of what it’s going to look like when they get in games and meaningful games,” Cubelic said. “..I’m not going to say Georgia is a known commodity.”

However, McElroy has more trust in Georgia’s quarterback situation than with the Crimson Tide.

“A lot of people will say Georgia is just like Bama. I don’t know if I necessarily agree with that. We’ve seen Carson Beck, in mop up duty I might add, look pretty efficient. We’ve seen Jalen Milroe in starter duty and not be great,” McElroy said. “…Doesn’t mean Carson Beck won’t go out and lay an egg. That can definitely happen but I would not compare the 2 situations right now.”

Meanwhile, McElroy isn’t completely convinced that LSU has an elite quarterback.

“I think Jayden Daniels is really good…But man, he’s going to have a couple duds in there. He’s not Joe Burrow,” McElroy said. “He’s a good, solid player. I think he’s a better thrower than most people probably want to acknowledge…He is a question mark a little bit to me.”

Cubelic echoed McElroy’s sentiments about a lack of glowing offseason commentary about Daniels.

“When you have a returning starter at quarterback, you anticipate either hearing nothing because it’s all good or they’ve taken a step and improved certain portions of their game. I don’t really feel like we hear either out of LSU,” Cubelic said. “I hear some similar concerns about the consistency of his game, not necessarily showing a ton of improvement.”

Georgia begins the season with a home contest vs. UT Martin, while Alabama hosts Middle Tennessee and LSU takes on Florida State in Orlando.
