Right now, just Alabama is projected to be in the College Football Playoff from the SEC; however, depending on how things finish, the SEC could land three teams in the New Year’s Six games.
No. 11 Florida, No. 5 Georgia and No. 7 LSU would all play in the New Year’s Six games if they were today, per ESPN.
Florida is projected to play in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against No. 12 Penn State. The Gators against the Nittany Lions would certainly be an interesting matchup pitting the SEC and Big Ten.
No. 7 LSU is projected to face No. 9 UCF in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl. UCF has a strong chance of playing either LSU or Florida. Can the Tigers or Gators finally end the Knights’ impressive winning streak? LSU may be the better matchup for that to happen.
No. 5 Georgia is also projected to play No. 6 Oklahoma in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. It probably won’t be as entertaining as last year’s Rose Bowl, but this game would be incredible for college football.
It’ll be interesting to see how Rivalry Week goes and how every SEC team finishes.
