ESPN announces end of play-by-play legend Mike Patrick’s career at network
One of ESPN’s most recognizable voices has called his last game for the network.
ESPN announced Mike Patrick has called his last game for ESPN on Wednesday after 36 years of calling games for the network. His final game was the 2017 Liberty Bowl between Iowa State and Memphis.
Patrick will join Wednesday night’s Louisville-Duke basketball game to reflect back on his career and say goodbye to ESPN fans one last time.
“It’s wonderful to reflect on how I’ve done exactly what I wanted to do with my life,” Patrick said, via ESPN Front Row. “At the same time, I’ve had the great pleasure of working with some of the very best people I’ve ever known, both on the air and behind the scenes. While I’m not sure exactly what’s next for me, I’m looking forward to continuing my journey with new life experiences.”
At one point in his career, Patrick was known as the play-by-play man for SEC Saturday night games on ESPN. He called those games with analyst Todd Blackledge.
The network plans to run a tribute video to Patrick all throughout Wednesday.
Thanks Mike Patrick, for 35 years of memorable calls.
