With Week 5 in the books, ESPN Analytics has updated its rankings models. The Football Power Index (FPI) has processed Saturday’s outcomes and updated its top 25 teams.
The updated FPI had no change at the top 3 of Ohio State, Oklahoma and Alabama. Future SEC member Texas moved up 2 spots to No. 4 with the Longhorns’ lopsided win over Kansas. Oklahoma and Texas are set to meet in their annual rivalry showdown in Week 6.
Georgia is the SEC’s top team in traditional polls and most power rankings, but ESPN Analytics’ predictive measure of team strength isn’t as high on the Bulldogs. UGA slid 2 spots from No. 5 to No. 7 in the FPI rankings after defeating Auburn.
Ole Miss and LSU played 1 of the most games of the college football season, but it did nothing to change either team’s FPI ranking. The Rebels remain at No. 13, while the Tigers are right behind at No. 14. Texas A&M and Tennessee also did not move up despite improving their records with wins over division rivals.
