ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) predicts the outcome of every college football game every week. The predictions have been released for a loaded Week 5 slate, including the Kentucky at Ole Miss game.
Unfortunately for Kentucky fans, the model doesn’t give the Wildcats much chance to win this conference matchup in Oxford. The FPI gives Ole Miss a 90.5% chance to win which means Kentucky has just a 9.5% chance.
The Wildcats have not won in Oxford since 1978. Overall, the teams have played 44 times with the Rebels getting 29 wins, the Wildcats getting 14, and 1 game ending in a tie.
These teams last played in 2022 when the Rebels got a 22-19 win over the Wildcats in Oxford.
The Rebels and Wildcats are both coming off of big wins in Week 4. The Wildcats defeated Ohio 41-6 while the Rebels took down Georgia Southern 52-13. Ole Miss sports a perfect 4-0 record while Kentucky has gotten out to a 2-2 start.
The Wildcats already have 2 SEC losses, so an upset win against Ole Miss would be huge. The Wildcats have losses against South Carolina and Georgia, and the schedule doesn’t get much easier so every win counts.
Ole Miss has yet to play an SEC game. The team has wins over Furman, MTSU, Wake Forest, and Georgia Southern. However, for a team with Playoff aspirations like the Rebels, every win is crucial. The team has matchups against No. 14 LSU, No. 21 Oklahoma, and No. 2 Georgia remaining on the schedule.
The Week 5 SEC clash is set to kick off from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday at Noon ET.
