Former Ole Miss defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre is expected to land the FIU head coaching job, according to FIU beat writer Eric Henry.

MacIntyre is currently the defensive coordinator at Memphis, and he was the coordinator and safeties coach at Ole Miss in 2019. Prior to his stop at Ole Miss, MacIntyre was the head coach at San Jose State (2010-12) and Colorado (2013-18). MacIntyre got his coaching start at Georgia in 1990-91 as a graduate assistant.

During his 2 head coaching stings, MacIntyre compiled a 16-21 overall record at San Jose State and a 30-44 overall record at Colorado.

If hired, MacIntyre would replace former FIU head coach Butch Davis who resigned at the conclusion of the Panthers season. FIU finished 1-11 in 2021, losing their last 11 games. Prior to his resignation, Davis blasted the FIU program, saying the administration had sabotaged the football program.
