Greg McElroy has updated his personal top 10 ranking after Week 3 of the college football season.
He shared his top 10 and his reasoning on an episode of Always College Football on Monday. His list includes just 1 current SEC program — Georgia.
Alabama, LSU and others were left off the list due to blemishes on their résumé during the early part of the season.
Here’s his top 10:
- Georgia
- Washington
- Florida State
- Texas
- Ohio State
- Michigan
- USC
- Penn State
- Notre Dame
- Oklahoma
Georgia’s hold on the top spot appears to be secure. McElroy said the Bulldogs’ performance in the 2nd half against South Carolina was championship-caliber.
“That team, in the final 30 minutes against South Carolina, that’s a National Champion right there,” McElroy said. “If we can get that continued performance … that right there, that’s what I’ve come to expect when I turn on the tape and I watch the Georgia Bulldogs.”
While Georgia is the only current SEC team in the top 10, future league members Texas and Oklahoma both made the cut.
Washington, Florida State and Texas round out McElroy’s top 4. Each of those programs has at least 1 power-conference win on its résumé this season.
