Former pro receiver Joe Horn pleads guilty to defrauding NFL retirees’ health care plan

Joe Horn may soon be facing some serious prison time.
The former New Orleans Saints receiver pled guilty this week in Kentucky to his involvement in a plan to defraud the NFL retirement plan — also known as the Gene Upshaw NFL Player Health Reimbursement Plan, resulting in $149,775 of money he received after filing false claims in 2018.
According to court documents obtained by NOLA.com, the scheme involved fake invoices and falsified prescriptions for medical equipment that did not exist.
The health provider that was defrauded was Kentucky-based Cigna.
Horn was not the only former NFL player involved as Clinton Portis, Robert McCune, John Eubanks, Tamarick Vanover, Carlos Rogers, Correll Buckhalter, Etric Pruitt, Ceandris Brown and Reche Caldwell were all named in the court documents.
Following his involvement, Horn is facing up to 10 years of prison time and a $250,000 fine.
