Media members come to Booger McFarland’s defense against Danny Kanell
By Andrew Olson
Published:
SEC Network analyst Booger McFarland believes that an eight-team playoff would diminish college football’s regular season. ESPN radio host and analyst Danny Kanell said McFarland’s theory can be described with two emoji.
Lol at @SECbooger and all people saying expanding to 8 teams would diminish regular season. People said the same during BCS. That's ? ?

Many media members, however, came to McFarland’s defense:
When Boog speaks, no one lols. https://t.co/ZhZFSwq8CN

8 teams in 2012, unranked Wisconsin would've had the same title shot at undefeated Notre Dame and 1-loss Bama

If we had 8 teams in 1995, then it really doesn’t matter whether Warrick Dunn scored at Virginia or not. https://t.co/ohynldvTWz

Mattered a ton that Iowa beat Michigan, IMO. Wolverines at 11-1 probably trump Washington. https://t.co/38dTjQNDkh

Marcus Spears and Kanell, with a cameo from “SportsCenter” anchor Scott Van Pelt, went back-and-forth over cupcake scheduling and length of the season:
well pull your check book out if you want the dudes to play 16 games that's how many they play on Sundays
— Marcus Spears (@mspears96) December 8, 2016
easy to want more games when you don't have to line down! The thought was good though. Amateurs my (donkey)
— Marcus Spears (@mspears96) December 8, 2016
I get it D this how you do your thing but the teams scheduling them cupcakes got a pretty solid history of winning

championships in the last 15 years go take a look at it and see how many NATO champs come from the league that

Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Citadel, Bethune Cookman ….Should I keep going, Danny? (Fsu opponents)
— Scott Van Pelt (@notthefakeSVP) December 8, 2016
@mspear96 @SECbooger I'm all for a bigger playoff. But when you rip SEC teams and FSU does the same, what point are you making?

It’s worth noting that McFarland’s Twitter cover photo is him on the set of Kanell’s radio show, “Russillo & Kanell,” implying there is unlikely any real animosity between the two. Kanell certainly got Twitter talking on Thursday morning.
